Hitachi Ventures, Propel(X), BalkanID: The Sure Shot Entrepreneur Newsletter

Hello Reader,

Founders and Venture Capitalists tread the road less taken by the general population. Startups are a “strike out on your own”, high-risk/high-reward environment. While the opportunity space is complicated enough to understand and navigate, we make it hard on ourselves by having arbitrary biases, irrational fears, and having an innate need to avoid asking for help.

My guest this episode is Gayathri, a partner at Hitachi Ventures. She is the embodiment of working against biases and breaking through in the male dominated world of Venture Capital. Swati Chaturvedi (my guest in episode 35) echoes that sentiment and is focused on creating the deep tech marketplace for investments. This dispels irrational fears and quantifies risk better. What better way of quantifying risk and automating mitigations than to have a copilot for your security organization. My startup corner highlight “Balkan ID” does precisely that.

Prioritize Innovation Using Artificial Intelligence

My guest in Episode #145 is Gayathri Radhakrishnan, a partner at Hitachi Ventures. Reflecting on her upbringing in India, she credits her competitive spirit and family support for shaping her path in male-dominated fields. Her focus at Hitachi Ventures lies in impactful AI investments, leveraging the corporation's strengths to nurture startups. Gayathri values founder passion, understanding of problems, and willingness to learn from feedback. Her advice to founders includes being prepared, taking risks, and using networks to build lasting partnerships. The discussion also covers the impact of venture capital on future generations, the benefits of corporate venture funding when done right, opportunities in AI for improving industries, and practical advice for entrepreneurs on validating ideas, accepting feedback, and networking with investors for continued support.

Connected Insights: Dismiss outdated notions and use the tools best suited for your needs

Swati Chaturvedi was my guest in Episode 35. She is the co-founder and CEO of Propel(X), Swati’s background in investment banking and corporate finance eventually led her to start Propel(X), filling a gap she perceived in funding for complex, science-driven startups. Propel(X) serves as an investment marketplace connecting accredited investors with deep tech startups. The company operates both as a marketplace and a venture fund, with Propel(X) showcasing startups and the Newton Fund investing directly. Swati stressed that while their approach may differ from traditional VC firms, their willingness to invest early and their meticulous due diligence process ensure they support startups with promising technologies.

In navigating the startup landscape, Chaturvedi advocates for efficiency in fundraising, dismissing outdated notions against using investment bankers or platforms like Propel(X). She argued that startups should utilize tools that enable them to optimize time and resources.

Overall, Chaturvedi's insights underscored the critical role of innovation, strategic partnerships, and efficient fundraising in the success of tech startups.

BalkanID recently announced their Copilot that supercharges the Identity Security and Governance lifecycle management. It converts concerns expressed in human language into multisystem queries that return back results that cybersecurity professionals can understand and act upon. It can codify the query that can be deployed and also take immediate actions to mitigate risks

BalkanID Copilot is available via two configurations: The first is a turnkey solution built on BalkanID’s own Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) platform. The second is as a headless system that can be integrated with existing identity security, governance, or lifecycle management tools. This flexibility ensures that all organizations, regardless of their maturity level, can benefit from Copilot’s advanced capabilities.
